Following a recent meeting at Sywell between directors of Sywell Aerodrome and the Light Aircraft Association (LAA), this is to confirm the Sywell Revival Aircraft Rally for 2009.
Planned as a major fly-in and meeting after the scaling back of the official LAA Rally, this event is focused as a dress rehearsal for the full LAA Rally in 2010. This year's event will be on Saturday 5th and Sunday 6th September. Aircraft are welcome to fly-in on the Friday 4th before and stay. The experienced Sywell team invite all light aircraft to this prestigious event. The LAA will be on hand, providing support and running the LAA centre. Aviators and enthusiasts will be able to enjoy the hospitality, the exhibitor's area and view the huge number of Permit and Certified aircraft we anticipate joining us. There will be food, a beer hangar, exhibitors and hundreds (possibly thousands) of aircraft. Camping allowed, or book into the on-site 54 room hotel.
We'll be running a breakfast buffet in the Aviator restaurant and there will be a Saturday evening BBQ event. Gates will be locked midnight for those camping alongside their aircraft. There will be hard and grass runways 03/21 available, although unlicensed for this event. Pedestrian entry will be £5 per adult, £2.50 for children (under 5s go free). Landing fee is £10 per aircraft, including entry for all occupants. There will be an online landing slot system so you can book your landing and see when your friends are planning to arrive. So come along to this major late summer event. Camp under your aircraft, enjoy the beer in Hangar One, meet friends old and new and savour the Rally atmosphere. The LAA team will be on-hand to support the event and will be awarding prizes in several categories for Permit aircraft. Aircraft can fly-in from 08.30 until 18.30 local each day - click here to book your slot (if any aircraft arrive without a landing slot you run the risk of being held in a holding pattern as aircraft with landing slots will be given priority). Inbound aircraft must follow the published joining instructions. Runway 03R/21L will be used for arrivals. All aircraft will be given a 15 minute plus or minus leeway on their allocated landing slot time. If for any reason your circumstances should change and you need to change your pre- booked slot, you will also be able to do so online. On landing you will be marshalled to a parking spot. You are free to camp by your aircraft if you wish. Toilets will be spread around the aerodrome. Only your first Landing fee of £10.00 is payable at the Fuel Kiosk regardless of any subsequent movements an aircraft may make during the weekend. On paying your landing fee you will receive a souvenir sticker plus security wrist bands for the pilot and all passengers to allow you free passage around the Aerodrome. Without them Security will stop you accessing airside. Avgas & Mogas is available 24hrs on our self-serve credit card system. Jet A1 is available during licensed hours. Those arriving by car are free to access the Aviator Hotel Garden free of charge. However entrance tickets at £5.00 each - per day - will be required to access the remainder of the aerodrome. Tickets can be purchased online by clicking here; alternatively, tickets can be purchased on the day from the Ticket Office in the Aviator Garden. Food and refreshments will be available at the Aviator Hotel and the Pilots Mess. Rooms are available at the on-site hotel on a first come, first served basis. To book a room contact the Aviator Hotel on 01604 642111. They will require a credit card pre-payment to secure a booking. For those camping there are two showers and toilets in the Jetstream Hangar. Ample toilets will be located around the Aerodrome. Everyone at Sywell will be doing their best to make this a great weekend. I hope you will attend to enjoy our extensive facilities and to soak up the unique Sywell atmosphere at The Sywell Revival Rally. I look forward to welcoming you here in September.
